I’m back!

I appreciate everyone that has been waiting for more posts from me; I hope to provide many more reviews and articles going forward. As many of you know, my family and I moved last year. I work for Dell computers and we relocated for a new opportunity within the company. To say the least, moving halfway across the US can be hectic. No excuses, but this is the largest reason I have not been posting new reviews or articles. Life has started to settle back down and I’m now able to pick this back up and continue spreading the love. I have several new posts planned in the coming weeks, some about games (PC and PS3) and some about computer hardware. I’m excited to get back to reviewing Geeky stuff and providing you guys what I find.

If anyone has specific requests, you find a game that you are curious about or need a new <insert gadget name or computer peripheral here> and you want my thoughts, please don’t hesitate to comment below with questions or requests. As I have limited time, working full time and doing my best to be a loving husband and father, I will try to answer everyone as quickly as possible; I appreciate everyone’s patience if the response is slower than desired.

The Art of Marriage $20 Applebee’s #Giveaway

This is the blog that Nick just recently started. He is a disabled Navy Veteran, and a self-proclaimed “Geek”, so he’s writing about things that interest him. If you have a spare moment or two, I am sure he’d appreciate if you took a look around at his posts, and maybe passed along the site to any “geeks” in your life. Since it’s a new blog, there are only a few posts, so it won’t take but a moment or two to browse around!

Military divorces are on the rise, up 42% since 2001, and The Art Of Marriage is aimed at helping our servicemen and women to protect their families, just as they’ve been protecting our country. Below the break is an app that you can use to support our military service-people. You are welcome to help spread the word via Twitter (#marriageops) and/or Facebook. If we help spread the word and show our support, maybe we can help those who have risked their lives to protect us!

You are also welcome to donate $10 by texting OPS to 80888, which will help pay for military men and women to attend an event to learn how to protect the Art of Marriage.

Tera Online

Tera Online

I urge all of my MMO gaming fans to check out Tera Online. I have played almost every major MMO in the last 5 or so years, but Tera has me really excited. My list goes like this: EverQuest 2, World of Warcraft, Warhammer Online, Age of Conan, Rift, Star Wars: The old Republic. Tera is different than all of them.

The biggest difference in Tera Online over other MMO’s is the way you fight or heal. Most MMOs are based on a ‘tab targeting’ system. You select your target, whether it is a monster you are trying to kill or another player you are healing, and then you click the spell or ability you want to apply to that target. Tera uses a directional targeting system. There is no hit or miss chance. If the target is in range and you are facing the right way, you will hit it. This also applies to the monsters/players you fight. If they swing, but you dodge out of their range, they miss. Although, this applies to healing too. If you cast a heal and your target happens to move before the heal lands, they don’t receive it. It sounds complicated, but I found that I picked it up quickly. I also thought it would be frustrating to have to physically aim, like in a first person shooter, just to hit my target. While you do feel bad if you have a series of misses, I like a challenge, so this just made me concentrate that much more.

Full Metal Jousting

Jousting has always been a fascination of mine. The reality of grown men, on horseback, riding full speed at each other to strike their opponent with a lance is as brutal as it gets. I have also speculated that modern day jousting would be awesome to watch. Not the theatrical stuff you see in movies or at dinner theater, but full on carnage. Well, the History Channel has made this a reality, with their new show Full Metal Jousting.

Full Metal Jousting

The show is as real as it gets. There are two “teams”, a red team and a black team. They have developed modern day versions of the armor Knights would wear in medieval jousting. Admittedly, the armor is awesome and I want it for myself; although I don’t know where I would wear it. It has all the attributes that you would expect from jousting armor with modern day safety in mind. The armor they use weighs around 80 pounds, looks pretty badass, and allows the jousters the mobility needed to compete. They have specially trained horses and their lances are made specifically for real jousting, with real hits.

They do have rules, for the safety of the jousters and the safety of the horses, but the competition doesn’t seem bogged down with them. There are real hits and real damage. There is also real injuries and real blood, so if you are squeamish or if you have young children, this may not be the show for you. It’s not gore for gore’s sake, and so far none of the contestants have been seriously injured, but when you have people running into each other with wooden lances while riding on 2000 pound horses, there is going to be some blood.

The show airs on Sundays 10/9c. For more information about the show, check out: http://www.history.com/shows/full-metal-jousting. UPDATE: The link is showing as broken. I did a search, and it does not appear the show was cancelled, it looks like they did a casting call for Season 2, but I can’t find any information on when that would air. Amazon does have the DVD for just under $25, or you can get each episode for $1.99 on Instant Stream Video, with the full season of Instant Stream priced at $9.99.

Turtle Beach EarForce X12 Headphones

Turtle Beach EarForce X12 Headphones

Turtle Beach makes some amazing headphones. I purchased their EarForce X12s for gaming, listening to music, and watching movies.

I had a cheap headset that met an early death and had to be replaced. They fell off my head, taking my glasses with them, one too many times. I have a bit of a temper and they were not Nick proof. During my research for a replacement set, I read many positive reviews for the Turtle Beach brand.  I found the EarForce X12s and they seemed to meet my needs. These Turtle Beach headphones have more than impressed me. The sound is great. They are not audiophile quality, but they have a nice rich sound that most other headphones that I have owned lacked. They do seem to have a break-in period, so be patient the first few hours of listening to them.

Comic Book Men

I am geeky about allot of things and comic books are one of them. So when I heard about a show, Comic Book Men, based on Kevin Smith’s comic book shop Jay and Silent Bob’s Secret Stash, I had to check it out.

The show is reality based and it is primarily filmed at the shop in New Jersey. This show follows the guys at the shop, their daily activities, and the customers that visit. It also shows Kevin and the guys during their podcast where they discuss the show and comic books in general.

My kids truly love this show, and they look forward to it each week. We typically DVR it, so we can watch it together on the weekends, because our weeknight schedule can be pretty hectic. They enjoy seeing what the guys in the shop are up to, the comic books mentioned, and the “toys” that customers bring into the shop to sell. If we ever get down to the New Jersey area, I’d love to take them into the store to look around, and probably by something.

The show is on AMC Sundays at 10/9 central. If you like comic books, I recommend checking it out. For more information about the show, check them out on AMC’s website: http://www.amctv.com/shows/comic-book-men. Amazon Instant Video also offers previous shows. As of this posting, they are currently priced at $1.99 per episode for purchase ($1.89 per episode with TV Pass), or $10.99 for Season 1. They are offering Seasons 1, 2, and 3.  It’s showing 6 episodes for  Season 1, 16 for Season 2, and 8 so far for Season 3 – the latest episode aired on Dec 1. I don’t have a link, but if you go to Amazon and type in “Comic Book Men” it was the first three links to show up for me.

Razer BlackWidow Ultimate Keyboard

The Razer BlackWidow Ultimate keyboard is the first product that I have owned from Razer. It is also the first mechanical keyboard I have owned. A mechanical keyboard differs from a “traditional” keyboard because it uses separate switches for each key. The keyboards that most computers come with are called membrane keyboards. A mechanical keyboard is much louder than a membrane keyboard. My wife commented on the clicking the key presses make the first few minutes I was using it. Aside from the noise, which doesn’t bother me in the slightest, the keyboard is very nice. It has a glossy finish and has a nice weight to it. I like the weight, since this keyboard doesn’t move around when I’m typing. It is backlit, each key has it’s own LED. This is nice since I prefer to play games, or write, in the dark.
